Jaipur: Sawai Jai Singh's Golden Dream
Home / Fiction for Kids / Poems for Kids / Jaipur: Sawai Jai Singh's Golden Dream
The only planned city of its time,
Built by Sawai Jai Singh in his prime,
Constructed with pink sandstones pretty,
It’s our own Jaipur city.
It was the emperor’s vision,
It was Jai Singh’s dream and ambition,
constructed in the beautiful nine-grid pattern,
one for each planet, Mercury to Saturn.
The Jantar Mantar of astronomical size,
Is really Jaipur’s finest prize.
And the Hawa Mahal which represents Shri Krishna’s crown,
Is the pride of Jaipur town.
To watch the outlines of Amer at night,
fills everyone’s heart with pride and delight.
And the lush gardens laid out here,
provide freshness to the atmosphere.
But the modern day developments,
are not in consonance with Jai Singh’s monuments,
And if we do not look out,
the dream city in the desert may get wiped out.
Comrades! Brothers! and Sisters!, Awake! Awake!
We must not let the damages overtake!
We must not put our city in the hands of fate!
We must rescue Jaipur before it’s too late.
